Bishop Announces Date for Restoring the Sunday Mass Obligation

Bishop Mark has announced the return of the Sunday and Holy Day Mass obligation in the Diocese of Altoona Johnstown beginning August 15, 2021. Local Catholics have not been obligated to attend Mass since March of 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Bishop made the announcement in a July 15, 2021, pastoral letter to the faithful of Altoona-Johnstown. In the letter, Bishop Mark shared heartfelt sentiments from parishioners with whom he has spoken. The Bishop reminded the faithful that our parish churches are our spiritual home, and extended a warm invitation for everyone to start anew.  You can read Bishop Mark’s announcement on the Proclaim website at https://proclaim.dioceseaj.org.

Gallitzin Intercessory Prayer

God of mercy and love, your faithful servant, Father Demetrius A. Gallitzin, gave up everything to sow the seeds of faith among the people of the Allegheny Mountains. Please listen to his intercession for us in our day, even as we ask that we be allowed to invoke him publicly as our patron with you. Pour out your kindness and mercy upon us and listen to our prayer, as we humbly beseech you to grant us the favor of (name your intention). Give us the humble courage of Servant of God Demetrius, so that we may praise and bless you through service to our neighbor and through witness to the Gospel of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

Has Prince Gallitzin touched your life in some way? Has he granted you a favor after you prayed to him? Do you have additional information on Prince Gallitzin that we may not know of? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we ask that you please submit your response here. Your testimony could help lead Fr. Gallitzin forward on his path towards Sainthood.
